Why is genetic testing offered at Wyoming Health Fairs?
To help identify inherited risks before symptoms develop and support proactive health decisions when reviewed with a healthcare provider.
Who can take this test?
Any individual over the age of 18 who are interested in learning more about potential inherited health risks.
How is the sample collected
Through a blood draw or saliva sample.
How long does it take to receive results?
Typically 10 - 21 business days.
What kind of results might I receive?
-Positive: A genetic variant associated with increased health risks.
-Negative: No known actionable variants were found
-Variant of Uncertain Significance (VUS): A genetic change was found, but its meaning is not yet clear.
Does a negative result mean I won't develop a condition?
No. Genetics is only one part of overall health risk, along with lifestyle, environment, and family history.
Important Follow-Up Information
After your test you will receive a business card with instructions on how to access your results and who to contact.
All questions after the event regarding test results, genetic findings, or medical next steps must be directed to Invitae or your healthcare provider. Wyoming Health Fairs cannot interpret genetic test results or provide medical advice.
